Athletes

The following are the registration requirements. To register, please check our Summer Registration Page OR the Fall/Winter Maintenance Page.

Pups (Average age 3-7)

  • Parent participation until swimmer can swim 25 meters unassisted
  • Must be potty trained
  • Able to participate in a 30min session
  • Must be comfortable getting face wet
  • Must be comfortable swimming with assistance in deep water (unable to touch bottom)
  • Additional Meet Requirements (applicable to compete at meets)
    • Must be comfortable putting head under water
    • Must be comfortable in any depth of the pool
    • Must be comfortable in marshalling without a parent, and be ready to engage with a calm and positive attitude
    • Must be able to swim the full 25m on their own
    • Must be able to swim the stroke that is being completed

      These criteria are not meant to exclude swimmers but to support safety and build confidence. Young swimmers who are not quite ready yet will continue to develop with our coaching team at practice.

Rays (Average age 6-11)

  • Must be able to swim 25 meters unassisted
  • Must be able to participate in a 60 min practice
  • Developing front dives off blocks or side of pool
  • Developing flip turns and side turns
  • Developing the 4 strokes of speed swimming (Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Fly)
  • Swim meets are strongly encouraged
  • Volunteer and Fundraising is required (Information will be emailed out before the season start)
  • Additional Meet Requirements (applicable to compete at meets)
    • Comfortable putting head under water
    • Must be comfortable in any depth of the pool
    • Must be comfortable in marshalling without a parent, and be ready to engage with a calm and positive attitude
    • Must be able to swim the full 25m on their own
    • Must be able to swim the stroke that is being completed

Jr. Intermediate Rays (Age up to 10)

  • Must have a strong understanding of all 4 speed swim strokes
  • Able to swim 100IM or 200IM
  • Should be comfortable using starting blocks
  • Developing the ability to legally swim all 4 strokes using proper techniques
  • Should understand preform flip turns and developing technique associated with turns
  • Swimmer should attend a minimum of 3 practices a week
  • Swim meets are highly recommended
  • Volunteer and Fundraising is required (Information will be emailed out before the season starts)

Sr. Intermediate Rays (Age 11 and up)

  • Must have a strong understanding of all 4 speed swim strokes
  • Able to swim 100IM or 200IM
  • Should be comfortable using starting blocks
  • Developing the ability to legally swim all 4 strokes using proper techniques
  • Should understand preform flip turns and developing technique associated with turns
  • Swimmer should attend a minimum of 3 practices a week
  • Swim meets are highly recommended
  • Volunteer and Fundraising is required (Information will be emailed out before the season starts)

Advanced Rays (Must have a 200IM time under 3.30)

  • Swimmers should have a legal time in either 100IM or 200IM at BCSSA Swim meet or equivalent
  • Must be able to participate in a 90 min practice
  • Ability to perform all 4 strokes/turns legally and consistently at practice/meets
  • Swimmer should attend a minimum of 4 practices a week
  • Volunteer and Fundraising is required (Information will be emailed out before the season starts)
