Hey There! My name is Myles Wheeler and I am super excited to be your Stingrays Head Coach for the upcoming 2025 season and my second consecutive season with the Stingrays. I started my swimming journey in BCSSA when I was three years old before joining the Spartan Swim Club when I was nine. This spring I am graduating from the University of Calgary with a bachelor’s of science focusing on Cellular, Molecular, and Microbial Biology while also representing the varsity swim team. The past 5 years of Calgary Swimming have been nothing short of extraordinary winning the Canada West conference twice and placing top 3 at Usports every year.

While sidelined with a wrist injury the past two seasons I have been keeping busy assistant coaching some of Canada’s premiere swimming talent on the Dinos team and being mentored by one of Canada’s most experienced coaches, Mike Blondal. I have been coached by some incredible coaches throughout my 18-year competitive swimming career and I am ready to pass on this knowledge to the next generation of Stingray superstars.

Throughout my competitive swimming career, I have been a multi-time provincial gold medalist, a multi-time western Canada medalist, an Olympic trials qualifier and have raced in many international competitions including Eurocup in Luxembourg. I will bring all these experiences and knowledge of the sport and implement this in my coaching to bring the best out of all my swimmers.

I am a fan and student of the sport and in this ever-developing age of swimming, I am ready to bring modern techniques to our youngest and oldest groups alike to propel our swimmers to become the best athletes and people they can be! Sport is not only about athletics but it also prepares you for life in a way few other experiences can!

This past season alone we earned 66 regional medals, doubled the number of provincial qualifiers and rose to our highest meet participation rate in recent years. Furthermore, we boast one of the highest coach to swimmer ratios in the province! There has truly never been a better time to swim with the Stingrays!

See you on deck this summer Stingrays! Head Coach, Myles Wheeler

Hey swimmers! I’m excited to be back this season with the Stingrays. A little bit about me is I am currently an undergraduate student in the University of Alberta’s Kinesiology program, with a deep background in competitive swimming. My journey began in 2013 with the Abbotsford Whalers, where I broke the club record for my age group and earned my first provincial medal in the 50-meter backstroke during my second year. Over the next few years, I added four more provincial medals to my collection, competing in events like the 50m free, 100m fly, 50m fly, and as part of a relay team.

In high school, I joined the Chilliwack Spartans Swim Club, where I trained alongside talented athletes including Myles and Niall. This experience allowed me to compete at high-level events such as the Canada Western Nationals and Canada Junior Nationals, where I faced some of the best swimmers in Canada. By my senior year of high school, I had earned a spot on the University of Alberta swim team.

In 2020, I decided to step away from competitive swimming to explore new interests, but my love for the sport never faded. I returned to the pool coaching in the 2022 season with the Haney Neptunes and the Chilliwack Stingrays in 2024.

As a swim coach, my goal is to inspire athletes to explore their potential and develop a deeper connection with the sport. I aim to create an environment where swimmers feel encouraged to grow at their own pace, while cultivating a sense of confidence, teamwork, and self-discipline. By focusing on both technique and personal growth, I hope to help each swimmer discover their unique strengths and enjoy the journey of improvement, all while fostering a positive, supportive atmosphere.

See you on deck!

Favourite Quote: “A winner is a dreamer who never gives up” – Nelson Mandela

I first joined the Stingrays in elementary school and instantly fell in love with the sport. The fun, inspiring atmosphere and incredible teammates made every moment special. Although I’m not a competitive person by nature, Stingrays allowed me to grow personally and set meaningful goals beyond competition. Because of my positive experience as a swimmer, I was thrilled to become a coach for the club in high school, where I found my passion for teaching and working with kids!

When I am not at the pool, you’ll find me playing with my cat, spending time outdoors, or watching a movie with friends.

As a coach, I’ve had the privilege of working with swimmers at all levels. My coaching philosophy centers on creating an environment that is motivating, challenging, and rewarding. I aim to help swimmers grow both athletically and personally, instilling confidence and resilience in and out of the pool.

Can’t wait to see you all in the water!

Hi my name is Bronwen and I’m so excited to coach for the Stingrays, again! I started working with the Stingrays last summer and continued through the winter fit season. I started my swimming journey in BCSSA when I was three years old, before joining the spartan swim club when I was five. I’m graduating highschool this June and I plan to go to the University of Calgary for Commerce.

Throughout my swimming career I have been a provincial medalist, western Canadian medalist and an Olympic trials attendee. I have competed in national level meets around Canada and the US in places like Montreal, California, Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto.  I have been to swim camps from provincial level to national level, being coached by the best coaches in Canada. This has deepened my understanding of stroke mechanics, starts, turns, and race strategies.

Through the year I have had a strong focus on technique and skill development, both in and out of the water. As a coach, I’m committed to helping swimmers build a solid foundation, gain confidence, and reach their full potential through thoughtful, technique-focused training.

At the end of my 2024 swim season I ended my competitive swimming journey and began coaching with Stingrays and Spartans. Since September I have coached 4 times a week with Spartans working with children from the age of five to fifteen. From January to May I spent my Sundays coaching the younger Stingray groups. I’m looking forward to a great season! See you on the pool deck!
